Douro Valley, Portugal

£11.10 – £12 per bottle*

The Portuguese make a mean bottle of wine and this delicious red from the beautiful Douro Valley is no exception. With dominant floral notes and juicy fruit flavours, it matches perfectly with meats and cheeses on a board. Just add lovely people and lively chat…

This is Ohsomm Douro

This video tells you a little about our Ohsomm new wine brand.

More about the wine

With an intense aroma of violets, cedar, balsamic and menthol (give it a sniff) and a lively taste bursting with ripe red and black fruit…  it’s a wine made for boisterous brunches and dinner table debates.  Pair it with meats, cheese… or dare we suggest a selection of meats and cheeses on an artsy board, of course. If you’re not that familiar with wines from the Douro, then try this classic from one of the the oldest producers in the region. You won’t regret it.

Made with love in the Douro Valley, Portugal.

Standing thigh deep in purple grape juice while dancing to the sound of an accordion played by a guy with more wrinkles than an elephant sounds like a strange dream, but it’s a nightly reality at harvest time in the Douro Valley. A seeming world away from the buzzy city of Porto, a deafening silence falls over these remote vineyards each night. The darkness is intense and the big sky is a planetarium-worthy show of dazzling stars. The only noise that breaks this monastery-like silence comes during the harvest when the accordion is dusted off, vineyard workers limber up their vocal chords and dancing feet stomp the grapes. This is one of the oldest Protected Designation of Origin regions in Portugal’s wine growing history. Over 250 years old, it is located in north-eastern Portugal along the Douro River valley. This region is bordered by mountain ranges in the north, west, and south and by the border with Spain in the east.
